Japanese Pole House Reborn

Sadly, the original home was destroyed by fire in early 2020. By this time the property had been sold twice, and the new owners were devastated by the loss. Of course, Helga and her husband were very saddened as well, having put so much effort into creating it.

Through friends of friends, Helga reached out to the owners to provide details of the original construction for insurance purposes. As time went on, a correspondence developed, and eventually the owners asked Helga to work with them to design a new home to replace the one that was lost.

A long-distance collaborative process led to a design based on the original pole structure, but adapted to the current owners’ tastes and needs. Although the pandemic has delayed the start of reconstruction, permits are in place and all involved are anxious to see the new structure take shape.
